Great Chick Lit Books Turned into Chick Flicks
84
Do you love chick lit books? I love books that I can relate to, that make me laugh, and make me cry all in the same book. I love books that have some romance and talk about friendship and relationships.
There's only one thing better than a good chick lit book. Know what that is? A chick lit book that has been made into a chick flick movie!
There have been quite a few chick lit books that have turned into great movies.
Check out these chick lit books as chick flick movies:
P.S. I Love You
With this one I saw the movie first. I didn't even realize that there was a book that came with it until I discovered the book in my mom's pile of books. This is the story of true love and what it takes to overcome the complete and utter grief felt by someone that has lost their soul mate. It's about rediscovering life and learning through loss. When the main character loses her husband to death she doesn't know if her world will ever be livable again. Until she starts getting love letters that her husband wrote before he died.
"Which is better - the movie or the book?" I liked the book better but the movie was very good as well.
Julie and Julia
This is a chick lit book for bloggers. And it is based on a true story which makes it even better. Julie is a young woman who feels like there is something missing in her life - mainly the satisfaction of having completed something. She feels like she only gets things halfway done before she ends up quitting. And when she starts cooking the recipes in Julia Child's Joy of Cooking she is determined to cook every single recipe. And blog about it. And people actually start reading her blog. And commenting on it. Julie gets so wrapped up in her project that she almost forgets what it is all about in the first place.
"Which is better - the movie or the book?" Again, I have to pick the book. But I do watch the movie every time it comes on television, too.

The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
My mom read this book first and thrust it into my hand demanding that I must read it. And I was glad I did. I love books about friends and families. This book totally ripped at my heart. There are some great, funny scenes, but there are also scenes that made my cry whole heartedly. For any woman that has ever thought that she might be going crazy, that her children were out to get her, or that she really just might get in the car and really start driving and not stop until she crosses the border - this book is for you. I've read this book several times over and every time I read it I find a little gem that I missed the first time. The movie follows a very similar line and has some good acting in it. I especially love the Ya-Ya's and their undying devotion.
"Which is better - the movie or the book?" Definitely the book. The movie was ok but not one that I'll watch again unless there isn't anything else to do.
Bridget Jone's Diary and Bridget Jone's Diary: The Edge of Reason
I've always had a bit of an obsession about books that are written like diaries. It started withDiary of Anne Frank and just continued. To this day I'll ready anything if they call it a diary - so much the better if it is a real diary! Anyway, I don't think there is a woman in the world that can't relate to Bridget Jones at least a little bit. Bridgette Jones is the single woman trying to make it in a business world, trying to be thin and have the best clothes, trying to be perfect (no smoking and make sure you hit the gym everyday). And let's not forget trying not to feel like she has to have a man in her life but desperately wanting one anyway. The books are laugh out loud funny and the character is written so well that you might sometimes wonder if someone has been reading your diary.
"Which is better - the movie or the book?" Again, I have to choose the books. But I have seen both movies several times and despite the fact that I am not a big fan of Renee Zellweger I have really enjoyed them.
Eat, Pray, Love
I read the book first and had borrowed it from my Mom. As soon as I finished reading it I wanted to flip back to the front and start reading it again. Unfortunately, she hadn't read it yet and I had to give it back. But I bought it soon after and knew that it would be one of those books that I would go back to again and again. If you've ever wanted to travel you will love this book. It's about discovery and rediscovery, learning about yourself, and finding God. Whoever God might be to you. I guess I should say finding your spirituality.
"Which is better - the movie or the book?" This is one of the rare times that I can say that the movie is just as good as the book. Even though all the details aren't exactly the same, the message is and that's what matters.

Julie and Julia was a great movie, nothing too serious but fun and enjoyable at the same time.
I'm going to have to check out Eat, Love, Pray when I am done reading it. :)
